Watch: Indiana Gov. Pense refuse to answer Stephanopoulos when asked if the RFRA allows discrimination

indiana signing new postGov. Pence signs the IRFRA into law while the present and former directors of the Indiana chapter of the American Family association, a known extremist Islamophobic, racist, homophobic and transphobic organization looks on in approval. Reporters were not allowed at the signing ceremony by the direction of Pense who said media was ‘misrepresenting’ the bill’s ‘intent’.

Eric Miller CEO of “Advance America” attended the signing and celebrated its anti-LGBT intent on his organization’s web page which Pense of refused to acknowledge.

Governor Pense is being blasted from the breadth of the political spectrum, losing critical jobs after signing the IRFRA sanctifying a caste system cloaked in religious demagoguery. He is also losing crediablity in his defense of it.

Pense said in an interview with IndyStar said he will introduce new legislation to ‘clarify’ state-sanctioned Jim Crow-esk laws

Pense is trying to gain state popularity by framing this as an us against them issue. He shouts down Stephanopoulos when he points out that many of the states citizens are opposed to the law and tries to downplay the economic inpact.

Even more disingenuous is his defense of the bill as he kept repeating ‘Obama signed the same thing when he was a state senator”.

According an attorney the two laws are vastly different. Read The Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act – An Analysis of Its Controversy”. You decide.

From our community who live in Indiana, a call for help.

The truth about the law is represented by the company that Pense keeps.

The two men standing behind Pense at the signing ceremony have already “clarified” the intent of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. All we saw of Pense was a dance, a transphobic, homophobic white man’s dance around the truth.

The truth of what Pense believe in is found in his silence.

There will come a day when we look back at this bleak time and compare the likes of the Indiana Family Association and Forward America to the KKK and sigh. You can cloak discrimination in any sheet but when it’s pulled off you’ll see the same faces underneath.

Freedom Indiana campaign manager Katie Blair issued the following statement in response to the Governor’s announcement:

“Governor Pence didn’t listen last week when he signed this discriminatory law into effect, and he’s still not listening to the growing chorus of criticism locally and nationally. While we appreciate his recognition that he’s placed our state in peril, he’s obviously trying to have it both ways.

“You can’t ‘clarify’ discrimination. Indiana now has billions of dollars and thousands of jobs on the line, all because the Governor wouldn’t stop this dangerous bill. He has a second chance to save our reputation for Hoosier hospitality, but he has to stand up and protect LGBT Hoosiers.

“Discrimination is not a core Hoosier value, and we can’t afford to let our state continue to suffer. Please, Governor, listen to the voices of common sense and reason trying to get through to you. Fix the bill to protect all Hoosiers, and make it clear our state is open for business again.”

Freedom Indiana is a grassroots organization of more than 60,000 Hoosiers committed to fighting Senate Bill 101. Last year, the group successfully pushed back Indiana’s constitutional marriage amendment.
