A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Pedro Silva-Renteria. 18, for the Murder of 36-year-old transgender woman Sophie Vasquez, of Brookhaven, Georgia. Police have been searching for Silva-Renteria since May 11, but do no have him in custody.
Transgender woman Sophie “Tu Chaparrita” Vasquez, 36 was shot to death on April, May 4, 2021, in Brookhaven Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. She was found unresponsive at her Brookhaven home by police officers while responding to a call that a person had been shot.

Brookhaven, GA. May 18, 2021 – The Brookhaven Police Department (BPD) today publicly announced the identity of a suspect in the May 4th murder of Sophie Vasquez.
On May 11, BPD detectives took arrest warrants charging 18-year-old Pedro Silva-Renteria of Norcross, Georgia with Murder. Since May 11, fugitive investigators from local, state, and federal agencies have been working to apprehend Silva-Renteria, but he is not yet in custody.
BPD is asking for public assistance to locate and arrest Silva-Renteria. He is described as a Hispanic male, 5’10” tall and approximately 180 pounds. Although he resides in Norcross, Silva-Renteria was traveling on foot in the Clairmont Road area of Brookhaven at the time of this homicide. He is not known to have a vehicle.
