“I am excited and honored to be part of the iconic Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue,” said Valentina Sampaio. “The team at SI has created yet another groundbreaking issue by bringing together a diverse set of multitalented, beautiful women in a creative and dignified way.”
“I was born trans in a remote, humble fishing village in northern Brazil. Brazil is a beautiful country, but it also hosts the highest number of violent crimes and murders against the trans community in the world—three times that of the U.S.”
Brazil with a population of 209 million has had 131, transgender murders, compared to the US with 327 million with 26 unlawful deaths since Sept 2019 according to the tdor.translivesmatter project. (TDoR is observed annually on November 20)
“Being trans usually means facing closed doors to peoples’ hearts and minds. We face snickers, insults, fearful reactions, and physical violations just for existing. Our options for growing up in a loving and accepting family, having a fruitful experience at school, or finding dignified work are unimaginably limited and challenging.” said Valentina Sampaio.

We have been huge fans of this beautiful woman ever since she came out on Women’s Day as a L’Oréal Paris model in 2016. By that time she had also been a model spokeswoman for major brands including Grazi Massafera, Taís Araújo, Juliana Paes, Isabeli Fontana, Emanuela de Paula, Ágatha Moreira, and Sophia Abrahão.
Valentina Sampaio’s next conquest was Victoria Secret after senior creative executive Ed Razek said the lingerie company’s annual shows were “a fantasy” and should not include transgender models. That was in 2018. By 2019 this gorgeous woman became the first transgender Victoria’s Secret Model.
And now Valentina Sampaio has broken two more glass ceilings not only becoming the first transgender Sports Illustrated model, but she is also among the top 8 finalists vying for Sports Illustrated title of “Rookie of the Year”
As you can see that she has some stiff competition. Valentina Sampaio (Far Right) is asking for our support by voting for her. This Model activist hasn’t forgotten where she came from yet she has the grace to diplomatically advocate while winning hearts and minds of even the most transphobic people.
