That’s right the USM Royal Majesty Drag Competition and Show is scheduled to be held beginning at 7pm on November 20th.
UPDATE! Your advocacy worked. Thank you to everyone who posted on the facebook event page. You were respectful and your message was clear. The TDOR is to be respected. The apology was heartfelt and sincere…
“First and foremost, I want to apologize for any hurt that has been caused by the controversy over the date of the 16th Annual USM Royal Majesty Drag Competition and Show.
The USM Drag Show WILL NOT be held on November 20, 2015.
I made two significant errors in this: the first is, when I knew the date of the 2015 show, I should have changed it; and second – and this is the most egregious of them – I did not communicate and collaborate with our Trans community partners soon enough. Read the rest on their Facebook page
According to an inside source, the drag show organizers, USM Center for Sexualities and Gender Diversity were made aware in July of the conflict that having a party on the TDOR would cause. But it wasn’t until that the group posted the event on facebook 12 hours ago that they were unable to avoid the conversation because, well, there’s a dog pile going on.
It is unbelievable that a college diversity group was unaware of the Transgender Day of Remembrance, but giving them the benefit of the doubt let’s say they were. So naturally, when they were educated they immediately announced a change of dates right?
Nope, the organizers said it wouldn’t be disrespectful if the party didn’t start until after we were done grieving our cold dead children and family. Besides the venue is already booked and changing that would be a real bother.
Then party time in southern Maine.
