Trial for the murder of Laura Vermont begins Thursday



The trial for the murder of transgender woman Laura Vermont, begins Thursday, June 2nd, 2016 at the Criminal Forum Minister Mario Guimarães in São Paulo, Brazil.

Five men will stand trial for the brutal beating of Laura Vermont on July 19th, 2015 which resulted in her death. Two of the accused are police officers MP who were sent to help Laura Vermont.  The two officers were arrested and released for lying in the preliminary hearings about their role in her death.

Enraged over the courts blatant disregard for life and cover up the LGBT community begun a petition demanding Justice for Laura Vermont and a proper investigation of the Polícia Militar do Estado de São Paulo.

According to the defendants Van Basten Bizarrias God , Iago Bizarrias God , Jefferson Rodrigues Paulo , Bruno Rodrigues de Oliveira and Jesus Marcolino Wilson have already confessed to the crime  but have remained free on orders from judges Erica Aparecida Ribeiro Lopes and Navarro Rodrigues .

All five, including the police officers, were released on minimum bail after a judge decided that the posed no risk to society.

“Uma família inteira morreu junto. Sofremos todos os dias e também sentimos a dor da impunidade. Que país é esse e que leis são essas, que prendem e soltam assassinos? Foi uma covardia o que eles fizeram, foi muita crueldade. E é por isso que vamos lá para não deixar que esse crime termine assim”, desabafa Zilda Vermont, mãe de Laura, ao NLUCON.
