On Jan. 4th 2017 L. C. Marinho became the first of the known 19 Brazilian trans people murdered so far this year. This happened in the early hours of Wednesday, 4th of January. L. C. Marinho, 33, a trans woman, was murdered inside her house located in the Vida Nova set in Santa Luzia neighbourhood, Nova Cruz, Rio Grande do Norte state.

According to relatives, around 4am neighbours heard shouting from the house where she lived. When opening the door, they found her lifeless on the floor with several stab wounds.

Police were called and are investigating having made one arrest. They are curently looking for a second suspect. The body had 23 stab wounds and will be released after the legal procedures.

From Quem a Homotransfobia Matou Hoje came the report of another trans woman murdered. She was murdered in February 22nd but only now surfaced.
E. dos Santos, 36, a hairdresser was shot to death in her belly by her companion apparently following an argument over the end of the relation. It happened in the east zone of Zumbi 3 neighbourhood, in the Amazonas state capital, Manaus.

From Neto Lucon, came the sad new that a trans man, Iuri Dantas, 26, killed himself on November 17th in the city of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte state, due to Institutionalized transphobia. He was a musician, singer, and has studied and worked in Peru.

His mother, Irene Dantas, via FB, regretted his son’s death, whom she always understood, respected and supported. “If words could define me today are pain and saudade (saudade in portuguese defines a state of mind when you miss someone or something as relatives, homeland, a certain age… It has no translation so i chose to write in portuguese). I did not lost a child, I lost a friend, a companion, an adventure partner and especially a wonderful confidant. My son paid a very high price for being authentic, sincere, courageous and free of prejudice and hypocrisy”, she wrote.

“Iuri Dantas will be missed and is a proof that transphobia and the exclusion of society lead our population to commit suicide”. wrote Rebecka de França, a trans activist.

On Monday November 21st, E.J.Pereira Gomes aka “Juninho da Mangueira”, 26, trans woman, was murdered on Teresópolis Av. in Guarus Parque, Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro.

According to military police, she was shot 5 times sometime during the early hours of the 21st and was found lifeless in the morning by residents. Police are investigating with no results so far.

On the afternoon of Thursday, November 24th, Paola D. S. M. Bracho, a trans woman, was strangled inside her house on Paz street, Manaus south zone.

According to relatives, the murderers are three young boys who were living with her since Tuesday 22nd. “They were living with her, but we didn’t know them, only by sight. After murdering her, the three got away”, stated her sister Karen Bianca Mamede. Friends stated that before murdering her, they all went to her mother’s house to eat.

Police are investigating. Two of the perpetrators were identified as Bruno and Jhonny, the third one was not identified at the time.

From Rede Trans Brasil came the new that a trans woman, Michelle Rios, was murdered inside her own house, in Rio de Janeiro, on November 26th.

From Quem a Homotransfobia Matou Hoje came the report that another trans woman called Dandara was murdered in the early hours of November 28th in the Adolfo Gordo Av. neighbourhood, City of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte state.

Apparently, a man on a motorcycle called for Dandara (sex worker) and ended up murdering her with shots in her head.

On December 2nd the half-naked body of a trans woman, Bel Ziza, was found in the Guarabira rural zone, Itamaty district, on a vacant lot of the Paraiba swamp, close to the facilities of the old Companhia Paraibana de Ráfia.

According to police, the body had no visible signs of violence. Suspicions are that she was asphyxiated.

Witnesses told police she spent the night before drinking alcohol and that she used to do sex work near the Terminal Rodoviario de Guarabira (Guarabira bus terminal). Police is investigating

Around 6:00 am of Saturday, December 3rd, a trans woman, M. D. machado, 23, was murdered in a bus stop in front of a gas station. The place is very busy but no one saw nothing. It happened somewhere in the Paraná state.

Apparently she was smoking in the bus stop when an unidentified person attacked her and shot her three times, back, chest and head.

According to police, who questioned some locals, she used to do sex work there and was always accompanied by another trans woman, and that she had a bad temper, a fussy person who usually wear no clothes.

Police are investigating.

A 44 years old trans woman, R.da S.de Sá, was murdered with three shots in the head, in the early hours of Saturday, December 10th, inside a bar on Vergel do Lago neighbourhood, on the Alagoas state capital Maceió, by an unidentified man.

Police is investigating.

On Tuesday December 12th, the body of G. A. de Godoy, 17, trans woman, was found by locals on Gâmbia street, Nações neighbourhood, in Fazenda Rio Grande, in the metropolitan area of Paraná state capital, Curitiba.

Several shots were heard in the night and when locals went to see what was happening they found her dead in a dimly lit area, with several shots in her head.

Some locals stated she was a sex worker but police did not confirm. The case is under investigation.

On Friday the 16th a trans woman, D. de Souza, 23, was killed with at least four shots on Aldenor Alves dos Santos street, on Santa Helena park, in Guaros, Campos.

When police arrived she was already dead on the ground, with shot holes in the neck and back. Four capsules of a .38 were found at the scene.

Police is investigating but none of the locals was willing to comment.

On Sunday December 18th, J. R. Teles Gomes or Fabiano dos Santos Cruz, aka Galego aka Bica, a 26 years old man was arrested in connection to the murder of J.R.Teles Gomes, 28, a trans woman murdered inside a cemetery on Serraria, Bela Vista district, on Crato, Ceará state, ,

According to Galego, they were both drinking in a bar and then went to the cemetery, where he confessed the fatal stoning of Gomes, but denies having done so to steal her cell phone..

Gabriel Gomes and F. Braz, apparently two trans men, were shot to death on Wednesday December 21st when riding a motorcycle through Vila Regina, Goiânia state, with at least 14 shots.

No witnesses to the crime were found, and they were both undocumented and without cell phones, so they were not identified at first. It is certain that at least Gabriel was a trans man.

On the night of Thursday December 22nd, a 50 years old trans woman, Paula Raio Laser, was shot to death on her house doorsteps on Travessa Tibiriçá, Couto Fernandes neighbourhood, on the Ceará state capital, Fortaleza.

She was shot by two men on a motorcycle, who after fled to Triângulo community on the same neighbourhood and who have not been identified so far.

According to Military Police, Paula had no criminal record but she was a drug user which may have been the cause of the crime.

From FB came the report that a trans woman, Jake Helen, was murdered with 5 shots on December 31st in Contagem (Ressaca region), Belo Horizonte metropolitan area, Minas Gerais state.

The friend who reported the murder on FB is the person who identified the body, since Jake was from Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul state, and had no relatives in Contagem.

A trans woman, Aila Fontinelly W. H. Soares dos Santos, 16, was shot in the back in the south zone of Teresina, capital of Piauí state. A teenager is suspected of committing the crime.

According to police, the murder happened around 23pm on Palmeirais park. Witnesses stated that she was sitting on her doorsteps when a teenager approached. Her sister seeing the teen coming shouted to her. Aila got up and was entering her house when was shot in the back.

The teen was alone and on foot. She had no criminal record although relatives have been involved in illegal acts. One of her siblings is a suspect on the murder of a relative of the teen who shot her. Police will investigate if revenge was the motive of the crime.

In the early hours of Sunday, 15th January 2017, Military Police received the information that a person had been murdered at a bus stop on Bento Munhoz da Rocha Neto Av, Agari park, in Paranaguá, Paraná state.

At the scene, police found the body of D. “Moranguinho”, a trans woman, with several gun shots. Witnesses told that she may have been involved in drug trafficking, which might have been the motivation for her murder.

Police is investigating. So far there is no information on the perpetrators.

    This is absolutely absurd. Does not Brazilian government have dome kind of task force in place by now to knock these numbers down (completely would be great). I just dont understand why consistently year after year murders of trans people are highest in Brazil. The country should be boycotted.
