Transgender woman Tyianna Alexander, 28, Murdered in Chicago

Transgender woman Tyianna Alexander, 28, was shot to death in the early morning hours in the 800 block of West 75th, Ashburn neighborhood, South Side on January 6, 2021. Brandon Gowdy, 31, was also shot and later died.

Tyianna, who friends also knew as Davarea identified as transgender according to Brave Space Alliance which first reported on her murder.

Within the last month, Chicago has lost two Black trans women to transphobic violence. Courtney Eshay Key and Tyianna Alexander were murdered in our city, and now, once again, we must mourn as a community.

Courtney Eshay Key, was murdered on Christmas Day.

Gunman fired shots from a silver-colored vehicle about 5 a.m. in the 800 block of West 75th Street, according to the Chicago Sun-Times

Davarea Alexander, 28, was shot in her head, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Police said Alexander died at the scene.

Brandon Gowdy, 31, was shot in his arm and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
