Transgender Man Tony McDade shot and killed by Tallahassee Police

TW Extremely violent content, Misgendering

Tony McDade posted a video on Facebook Tuesday promising revenge after being jumped by five people.

In the video below, he said he was going to kill the attackers but said that he wasn’t going back to prison. To that end, McDade said that he planned to have a confrontation with the police afterward.

McDade served a 10-year sentence in federal prison on a weapons possession charge and was released in January. Prior to that, McDade served two stints in state prison on forgery, armed robbery, burglary and assault charges.

Tallahassee police and main mainstream media misgender and deadname McDade to the point of absurdity, as to be intentionally disrespectful. Those passages that are quoted here have been edited to reflect McDade’s authentic gender and name.

According to wctv.tvTPD responding to a fatal stabbing saw Macdade nearby. According to the police he was holding a gun.

“The suspect then made a move consistent with using the firearm against the officer, who fired their issued handgun, fatally striking the adult the suspect,” the department said in a release.

He died from the gunshot wounds, and the officer was not hurt in this shooting, TPD says.

The officer who fired their gun has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard protocol for TPD in an officer-involved shooting.

The boiling point has finally been reached under Trump’s homophobic white supremacist administration and people are rioting. Tragically Tony McDade’s life ended in violence as so many Transgender people of color have but there is so much we need to do to make this right. The petition “Justice For Tony McDade” started yesterday already has 35,000 signatures at the time of publication. It is a start.

Rest in peace Tony McDade.
