Members of the Mexican trans community demanded the dismissal of Antonio Medina Trejo, secretary of Sexual Diversity of the PRD (Partido de la Revolución Democrática-Democratic Revolution Party), December 22.
The group is accusing Trejo of issuing discriminatory and stigmatizing comments harmful to the transgender community.
During a demonstration outside the headquarters of the PRD, in the Escandon neighborhood of Mexico City, 20 trans women recalled that Medina Trejo said that “trans people only serve to be prostitutes and hairdressers.”
Trejo, who is an academic of the Universidad Autónoma de la Ciudad de México (UACM) and a journalist who specializes in issues of sexual diversity, was put in charge of the institutional organization of the PRD, which specializes in promoting public policies for LGBTTTI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transsexual, Trans and Intersex) populations, less than a month ago .
“There are also people (trans people) who are entrepreneurs, restoration employees, photographers and even housewives, but we all have a right to respect, it offends the entire community, so Medina’s comments cause irreversible damage to our community. We demand that he leaves the party and leave the office, “said Frida, one of the protesters.
They also want that, besides being dismissed, Medina offers them a public apology and warned that if their demands are not heard, they will convene a massive march.
The group also delivered a letter with the formal request for the dismissal of Medina Trejo.
