Texans, the nation, and much the world have been deluged the past week with reports of Houston HERO fiasco and  probably aren’t looking for another opinion. The Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO) was forced by a referendum  to the ballot on Nov. 4th.  If it had passed by popular vote it would have protected Houston citizens for the following characteristics Sex, Race, Color, Ethnicity, National origin, Age, Familial status, Marital status, Military status, Religion, Disability, Sexual Orientation, Genetic Information, Gender Identity and Pregnancy in the workplace, housing and access to public accommodations.

Texas governor Greg Abbott and Lt Governor Dan Patrick were crucial in this human rights failure financing and participating in a campaign to defeat it.  They called HERO the bathroom bill spreading lies that kill trans people. Now Houston has the singular distinction of being the fourth largest city in the nation and one which has never had nondiscrimination protections on the local level.

Sometime in the near future, a transgender teenager in Texas will attempt suicide — and maybe succeed — because vilifying people for their gender identity remains politically acceptable in America. ~ the opening paragraph of the NY Times editorial blasting Dan Patrick and Gregg Abbott

Texas Governor Gregg Abbott and Lt Governor Dan Patrick won’t celebrate openly the suicide of our youth but like all of our enemies they will laugh up their sleeves at the death of our children.

Being a trans woman and Texan, editor in chief and founder of Planet Transgender you might think I would have already expressed my opinion, but I haven’t for a number of reasons.

First and foremost I was just completing training and successfully testing for a promotion at work. Secondly we have been working incredibly long overtime hours and thirdly I was heavily medicated during the voting weekend having just been in surgery.

Lastly, but most importantly, I was damaged beyond words by the outrageous bigotry and lies told by Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. In all honesty, I couldn’t find a way to express myself without resorting to profanity laced screed until now. I wasn’t suicidal but even as a seasoned advocate this much hate so close to home rendered me speechless and emotionally wrecked.

Greg Abbott

The Texas Governor tweeted his bigotry.

So Claire-Renee Kohner covered the event and with the help of our managing editor amazing Amy Walker published about this fallen hero.

But I needed to state our position here are PTG. I’ve never before called an American politician our enemy before. I’ve always left the door open in the hope that sometime down the road things could change for the better.

Other minorities should also understand that these two criminals don’t care about them either, but it’s doubtful that the governor would publicly attack them or fight against a Houston nondiscrimination ordinance exclusive of trans people, should it ever come up again. A lot goes unsaid amongst KKK brethren.

That being said, I have been blessed with a noticeable uptick in warmth and acceptance in my everyday life. It is profound and so is the distance between how the average Texan feels about us and Abbott and Dan Patrick’s unmitigated hate.

I’m realistic above all and know those two reprobates will never apologize. Rather I am fully expecting to see an assault against Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio and El Paso nondiscrimination ordinances. This the ultimate hypocrisy from the T party, forcing big government on little people’s lives.

But are they aware of the potential to damage the state’s reputation? The world looks at America as a refuge, a place where justice and fairness reign have been sorely disillusioned by the Governor’s office. My take on that is they just don’t care.

There is one more thing the Governor should be aware of. We are a proud people and like most Texans honest and hardworking. We will not simply go away. Conversely, we will continue to thrive. But should you be so stupid as to continue with your hate Mr. Patrick, Mr. Abbott, we are ready. We are Texans.

“No men in women’s bath rooms”…
So instead Abbott wants to force us trans women into men’s bathrooms where he can lech at us?
How did Texas end up with sick perverts like that in politics?
