On International Women’s Day, the South Dakota Senate voted 20-15 to pass a bill that would prevent transgender girls and transgender women from playing in girls’ and women’s sporting events.
Gov. Kristi Noem said on Monday on Twitter that she intends to sign the bill “very soon.”
The Senate passed House Bill 1217 on Monday after it was smoked out on the House floor Thursday.
The Senate State Affairs Committee had voted 6-3 to kill the bill before it was smoked out in the Senate. The bill had passed on a 50-17 vote in the House, and a 11-2 vote in the House State Affairs Committee as amended.
