I was left breathless after a hot summer morning run with U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke not because of the distance, but because of the depth, breadth, and vigor of this man.
This year I have become politically reinvigorated having spent the first half of 2017 fighting the relentless, immoral Texas GOP, and their vile bathroom bills.
Dan Patrick was stopped some say because of moderate Republicans business concerns. I’m an optimist who believes Speaker Straus and others were touched by our appeals and opposed those bills out of concern for transgender children and the blood that surely would be spilled.
Whatever the reasons a powerful Texas bipartisan coalition has formed. Millions of Texan Democrats and socially responsible Republicans have realized that they have a common enemy, the so-called “Texas Freedom Caucus”. The actions of this extremist right-wing group have clearly demonstrated that they have no regard for human life regardless of one’s political affiliation if their actions achieve their goals.
Dan Patrick’s had hoped to promote himself politically on the national stage using Texas as an example much as he did this year as he repeatedly used Houston HERO debacle as evidence of a statewide anti-transgender sentiment. Texas was to be Dan Patrick’s showcase for his ultra-right national political aspirations, possibly a presidential run, but he failed miserably.
This is why I joined with Rep. Beto O’Rourke for the early morning Trinity River run. I hoped to voice the concerns of our community which is so strongly composed of millennials and to use that time together to make an impression on Rep. Beto O’Rourke as to the importance of gaining our community’s trust.
This is a truly amazing man. He is all about the people. He truly cares about each person who joined with his group.
The first video is a brief impromptu interview in which Rep. Beto O’Rourke talks to transgender rights. The second is a video posted by Rep. Beto O’Rourke beginning with breakfast on the day of the run.
