Trans student Oliver Morgan. 15, was first stripped of his prom king title by Tidioute Charter School. But after the administration learned Oliver’s trans status they changed their minds giving him and girlfriend Hanna good reason to celebrate.
When the school found out that Oliver was running for prom king they pulled his name, but that may be understandable. Oliver had just come out as trans two weeks before running for king. He’s graduating three years early with 18 college credits and going into pre-med at PSU.
“I knew it would stir some feathers being a transgender kid running for prom king. I just wanted to make sure that it would be allowed by the school because I didn’t want anyone else to have to pave that way for other kids in the future,” Morgan told 12 news.
The school’s CEO and principal, Doug Allen, broke the news to Morgan’s mom, Monica, who also teaches at the school. She then told Morgan. He cried after he found out.
My first reaction after the vote was, did somebody write in ‘Oliver’ as a prank? In other words, I was not aware as principal that that’s how she’d like to be known,” Allen said.
Social media to the rescue.
So family members began a Facebook group to campaign and help educate the school.
