Michigan Trans woman Tina Seitz and others sue state for debilitating driver licence rule

michigan post

The state of Michigan is being sued by the ACLU on behalf six transgender people over a rule that makes life impossible, even dangerous. The rule enacted in 2011 requires transgender people to present a birth certificate that indicates their authentic gender in order to have their gender marker changed on their drivers license.

Needless to say having a gender marker that is obviously not congruent with your presentation makes even the most essential life tasks nearly impossible.

Many states do not amend birth certificates and some make sterilization a prerequisite.

The state has 20 days to respond to the lawsuit according to Fox affiliate ktvu
