Transgender woman Anannyah Kumari Alex surprised Kerala with her candidacy and shocked the patriarchy by saying she is as good as any man could be. Anannyah Alex, 28, is the first transgender person to contest an assembly poll in the southeastern state of Kerala. When asked why she would run against a powerful incumbent she said if even if she lost she would still win with the notoriety.

Pursuing her Facebook profile you see posts about powerful women, like vice President Dr. Kamala Harris, and videos of love where everyone is equal.

This boldness and self-assured style has rocketed Anannyah a successful Fashion Stylist, radio host, and emcee to the front page of history.

Kerala is a state on India’s tropical Malabar Coast, has nearly 600km of Arabian Sea shoreline. It’s known for its palm-lined beaches and backwaters, a network of canals. Inland are the Western Ghats, mountains whose slopes support tea, coffee, and spice plantations as well as wildlife.
