McAlester Transgender Man Murdered New Year’s Morning

Transgender man Dustin Parker, 25, died of multiple gunshot wounds while driving his cab early New Years’ day. Parker, the first trans person in the US to be murdered in 2020 drove an electric cab for ‘Rover’ and was providing free rides home at the time of his murder.

A responding officer found his taxi riddled with bullet holes. Dustin Parker, 25, was found dead in the driver’s seat according to Tulsa World. The shooting occurred in the 200 block of West Delaware Avenue about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Capt. Kevin Hearod of the McAlester Police Department said.

“We’ve still got investigators out running down leads right now,” Hearod said. “(Parker was) just a working man, making a living for his family, and he didn’t get to come home.”

Thursday police questioned and released a person of interest according to KTUL

Dustin Parker, a beloved father of four and founding member of Oklahomans for Equality McAlester will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Brian West who began the Facebook fundraiser for the Parker family wrote that Dustin’s youngest son Damon’s birthday party is on January 5th and that (you can drop presents off at) 426 S Main St, he will be 7 years old.

“Rover Taxi is devastated at the loss of a member of our Rover family. Dustin was a steadfast friend, an amazing husband and father, and generous to a fault.” wrote Brian West, “He loved fiercely, worked tirelessly, and took on life with so much hope and enthusiasm that his presence brightened all of our lives. His bright, young life was taken far too early. Please keep his loved ones in your thoughts as we all try to pull together to get through these difficult times. Dustin will be missed, but never forgotten.”

An all-ages Candle vigil will be held Friday, January 3rd, 2020 at 6:30 pm in the parking lot of Fat Mary’s followed by an 21 and over benefit show which begins at 7:30. All proceeds will be given to the Dustin Parker family emergency fund.
