Man arrested in acid attack on 18-year-old transgender woman

Asya Cevahir has lost sight in one eye after Emre Bozkurt threw acid on her.

Asya Cevahir, 18, a beautiful transgender woman had just broken up with her ex-boyfriend, Emre Bozkurt last week when in a fit of jealousy he threw acid in her face. The video of the attack on Asya Cevahir, a Syrian refugee in Istanbul went viral yet the culprit remained free. People were asking what kind of country do we live in where such a thing could happen?

The outrage from social media which used hashtag #EmreBozkurtTutuklansın was so intense that police couldn’t ignore it.

The police finally arrested Emre Bozkurt last weekend according to T24. The assailant Emre Bozkurt, who was found to have fled to Karabük, was caught and detained by the gendarmerie in Eskipazar.

The attacker, who was taken to the court with the audio and video information system (SEGBİS) method, was arrested for ‘deliberate injury by means of a brutal injury’.

Asya Cevahir has lost sight in one eye as a result of the attack, continues to be treated at Kocaeli Derince Training and Research Hospital. (DHA)
