Police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse 300 right-wing nationalists who were intent on attacking the first pride parade in the eastern city of Lublin, Poland Saturday.

Although the 1000+ LGBT marchers were kept safe, concussion grenades explosions and hateful chants caused some to involuntarily duck when the violent Trumpsters approached within feet.

The parade went on as planned despite threats.

On Friday, Lublin’s Court of Appeals had overruled a ban by the city’s mayor who had cited security concerns as his reasons for wanting both the parade and counter-protest stopped, according to reports.

For those who wondered why Trump’s first EU stop in 2017 was to Poland, wonder no more.

Both Trump and Poland’s ruling right-wing political party have been accused of being a threat to the rule of law while ignoring human rights abuses according to the BBC. If Trump had visited Germany first he would have been met with thousands of protesters. Instead, he visited Poland where a carefully choreographed right-wing crowd greeted him.
