The Liberty Counsel, a religious nonprofit is furious with the transgender community after they were told that they couldn’t raise a Christian flag at the Boston city hall.
Boston granted at least 284 applications by private groups to fly flags on the city flagpole but not the Camp Constitution’s Christian flag request, according to Liberty Counsel.
I know, there is a huge disconnect and there should be. Why would a religious nonprofit be concerned that trans people have flown their flag, and really what difference would it make?
As it turns out.
Boston isn’t required to fly a Christian flag at its city hall, the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals at Boston ruled Friday. The court said the flagpole is not a public forum, and the city can select the views that it wants to express.
The court explained that The City also has raised on its third flagpole the flags of other countries, including Albania, Brazil, Ethiopia, Italy, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Mexico, as well as China, Cuba, and Turkey. So, too, it has raised the flags of Puerto Rico and private organizations, such as the Chinese Progressive Association, National Juneteenth Observance Foundation, Bunker Hill Association, and Boston Pride. Broadly speaking, we group these approvals as approvals for “the flags of countries, civic organizations, or secular causes.”
Liberty counsel’s statement following the ruling included links to the Pride Flag and the transgender flag which are raised by Boston annually.
“The city’s records show Boston has allowed at least 284 applications by private organizations on the city hall flagpoles without denial except for the Christian flag. Other flags raised include the Turkish flag (which depicts the Islamic star and crescent) and the Portuguese flag (which uses religious imagery). City officials have also never denied the “messages” communicated by the “Chinese Progressive Association,” the rainbow flag of Boston Pride, and a “transgender” pink and blue flag. The flags of private community groups include Albania, Brazil, Ethiopia, Italy, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, and Mexico, as well as of Communist China and Cuba. No flag was ever denied until the city denied the flag of Camp Constitution. “
Of the 284 flags raised previously only the LGBT and Trans Pride flags have links an indication of how especially odious they are in the eyes of the Liberty Counsel. It’s also important to note that the Boston City government believes in the separation of Church and state has a policy of not raising flags representing religion.
Hate is not a family value.
As it turns out the Liberty Counsel isn’t about liberty or Christian values at all. The Liberty Counsel is a designated LGBT hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). It is one of the hate groups that the Trump administration used in its Orwellian fight against freedom of speech.
