Russian LGBT activist Yelena Grigórieva was found stabbed to death in St. Petersburg Sunday. Her body was discovered on the evening of July 21 near Pulkovskaya Street with multiple knife wounds also showed signs of strangulation.

The Moscow Times reports that Grigórieva had recently been featured on a website that encourages people to “hunt down” sexual minorities.

The website, inspired by the “Saw” horror film franchise encourages visitors to track down and assault people believed to be LGBT, was blocked in Russia last week.

Grigórieva, 41, was a regular participant in LGBT rights demonstrations, but also at other political rallies, such as those calling for freedom for Ukrainian political prisoners or last year’s protests against pension reform.

“She was an activist of the democratic, anti-war and LGBT movements,” said opposition activist Dinar Idrísov on Facebook. “Recently she had been a victim of violence and was often threatened with death.

St. Petersburg police dismissed reports that she had recently reported threats on her life calling the complaints “domestic conflict situations involving the victim’s acquaintances.”.

According to criminologists investigating the case, the murder was committed in the early hours of the morning between Saturday and Sunday. Her body was found between 12 and 16 hours later.
