The husband of Christa Leigh Steele-Knudslien founder of the Trans America Beauty Pageant was sentenced to life for her murder last month. Mark Steele Knudslien, 48, changed his plea to guilty in Berkshire Superior Court, admitting to second-degree murder. Mass Live reports that Judge John Agostini sentenced him to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 25 years.
I apologize for not posting about this sooner. As we all know, our news feeds have been jammed by conservative politicians’ efforts to kill us, the living.
I wrote about Christa Leigh Steele-Knudslien in 2018 when she was murdered. Although we never met in person she was a friend of mine on Facebook. She was an exuberant soul who just days before being murdered shared about her new snowblower, home improvements while endearingly encouraging her husband’s efforts to quit smoking.
Christa spent much of her time trying to raise her sisters up. She was a pioneer enduring the dehumanizing effects of presenting in drag queen in order to compete in gay pageants. While I struggled to simply exist in Western Mass. she used her life experiences to found both Miss Trans New England and Miss Trans America. This is what made her uniquely inspiring and a friend and advocate to emulate.
R.I.P. Christa Leigh Steele-Knudslien.
