Gala Ocampo, a 25-year-old trans activist, was found shot to death on January 17 on the Coahuixtlan-Cajones highway, in the municipality of Amacuzac, Morelos, Mexico.

Gala Ocampo, was a member of the Sexual Diversity committee in Morelos and a resident of Amacuzac. Her colleagues and friends believe that her murder was a hate crime because Gala Ocampo was an outspoken advocate for transgender rights, an issue that has been ‘frozen’ on the legislative agenda for years. reports that Gala Ocampo Figueroa is the twentyth transgender person to be murdered in Mexico since November 20, 2020, the last TDoR.

Transgender woman Ale Zayas, 26, was brutally murdered just to the east in the city of Puebla, Mexico on December 21, 2020. Family and friends have yet to see evidence that the authorities are investigating.

Activist Kenya Cuevas recounts how her life has been as a trans woman and the violence that, like her, this population lives in Mexico. She demands that her rights be respected, from the most basic: the right to life # NiUnaMás

Today in the Morelos prosecutor’s office we are grateful from the house of the Tiresias a.c. Morelos for the collaboration and sensitive support for the direct victims of this transfemicide in Gala Ocampo we will continue to work for the human rights of all human beings
