Family Research Council Releases Anti-Transgender Report

The Family Research Council [FRC] has issued a 42-page document titled, “Understanding and Responding to the Transgender Movement.”  Naturally the recent release is not intended for it’s audience, primarily Evangelicals, to come to understand the transgender community, but more to provide them with more “proof” that our community is delusional, non-existent and thus should be treated as people with a mental illness to be cured.

Co-authored by Peter Sprigg, Senior Fellow for Policy Studies of the FRC, which the Southern Poverty Law Center has deemed a hate group since 2010 and Dale O’Leary, author of One Man, One Woman, The Gender Agenda and proponent of reparative therapy, want the reader to understand that they, “affirm what has been accepted as both normative and indisputable: that the truth about sexual differences is objectively knowable and that redefining it will be harmful.”

Overlooking the usage of the word “transgendered” six times and the word “immutable” five times, there is terminology with well placed condescending “quotes” around words like disorder, dysphoria, transgender, wiring, non-discrimination, gender reassignment and pass;  the overall conclusion of the document is, “No one can change his or her sex. The DNA in every cell in the body is marked clearly male or female.”

Many reports and articles have more than proven that both biology and genetics are clearly involved in people who are transgender, so it would be redundant to restate the obvious science behind being trans and the fantasy the right feels that they can push forward in the form of fear and misinformation.  Knowing this, the FRC has realized they are losing this argument with science and are focusing their attention on how the left is redefining the word sex to fit the so-called transgender agenda.

“No one can change their sex, but by redefining ‘sex’ to describe only the biological, and ‘gender’ to how a person self-identifies,” states the report, “—either as male, female, or something else, — the trans activists can claim that males can become women and females men,” nor “Neither lawmakers nor counselors, pastors, teachers, nor medical professionals should participate in or reinforce the transgender movement’s lies about sexuality—nor should they be required by the government to support such distortion. ”

According to the report, this distortion and redefining of the term “sex” has been a long time coming and perpetrated across three waves of assault on the sexes.  The first wave it states, “came from the modern feminist movement,” and the second wave came from the “homosexual movement.”

The third wave, of course, comes from the trans community and states that it’s an attack on the basic reality of, “that all people have a biological sex, identifiable at birth and immutable through life, which makes them either male or female.”  In other words, our communities questioning of the “male/female” binary is outside of reality.  Given that nothing in nature is considered binary and constantly in flux, it seems hard to believe that the only binary living organism in the Universe is the human being, but the FRC includes plenty of bible quotes to prove that God makes no mistakes.

The report trots out the same bunch of John Hopkins retired, fired, or rejected “Doctors” to prove their point.  Allowing children to transition, according to John Hopkins Dr. McHugh, is the equivalent of “child abuse.”  The document states, “…if the parents choose unconditional acceptance of the child’s feelings and goals, the dysfunction within the family which may have precipitated the GID is not addressed.”

Alison Yokom from Transforming Families MN, an inclusive and safe space for families with transgender and questioning youth, responds, “As a parent of a transgender child and as the co-chair of Transforming Families MN, I can say with certainty that transgender youth are not any different than other children, with the exception of perhaps being more resilient.

“I know many transgender youth and their families,” Alison continues, “and what they all have in common is unconditional love. Children who are rejected by their parents and society for being their true selves are put at great risk. Many attempt suicide. Many are homeless. This report by the FRC perpetuates the misinformation that leads parents to reject their children’s affirmed  identity. Kids die when that happens.”

Naturally the report offers up some advice to those parents dealing with a child that has “dysphoria” [quotes courtesy of FRC].  Strangely, these suggestions seem to promote the opposite of what the FRC is preaching against.  Marc S. Dillworth, Ph.D., has described a treatment model for boys which includes the following elements:

1. Encourage Father/Son Bonding
2. Mother’s Distancing Themselves and Affirming Father’s Masculinity
3. Extinguishing Feminine Behavior and Play
4. Positive Encouragement for Gender-Appropriate Behavior
5. Encouraging Same-Sex Friends, Play, and Activities.

The list of “gender affirming activities,” which seem to include alienating your child from their mother and encouraging same-sex relationships, has allegedly produced results.  The report says, “One patient experienced a remission of gender identity problems after becoming involved “in a charismatic religious movement,” where he found, “Men in the church were perceived as being warm and caring without losing masculinity.”

The good news is that the FRC has finally nailed down the origin of being transgender and it has nothing to do with genetics or biology, the “study” states, “it is known that the transgendered are more likely to have experienced difficult childhood situations, to have been victims of sexual child abuse, or to have a history of trauma, loss, and family disruption.”  It then puts forward the “Patterns of Transgender Desires.”  In fact, there are three desires we as a community apparently have:

1. Males with childhood GID, who are usually sexually attracted to men: “however, a small number are attracted to straight men and find gay men too effeminate.”
2. Secret transvestites: As a result of the boys “mothers being emotionally unavailable.”
3. Females with childhood GID, who are usually sexually attracted to women:  “As little girls many come to believe that women are weak and they would be safer and more appreciated if they were boys.”

The report relies heavily on sweeping generalizations like passing, the necessity of surgery that is somehow required to be labeled “transgendered” and the communities level of perceived state of mental illness.  “According to a large study of transgendered persons, only 21 percent are able to “pass” all the time,”  the document states, but collectively, passing, surgery or mental illness has little to do with the trans experience nor could the experience be captured or understood by two cis-gender people whose stated agenda is anti-transgender.

Whose to blame for this new acceptance of people who are transgender?  According to the report, unqualified psychiatrists, therapists, gender affirming parents, Caitlyn Jenner and militant trans advocates that put professionals under duress for hormones.  The report goes on to say, “Unable to alleviate their transsexual clients’ distress and faced with clients who threaten suicide or self-mutilation, therapists approve applications, not because they think it will cure the underlying problems, but as a palliative measure to alleviate other presenting problems like depression.”

Finally, the report comes to the conclusion that “Transgender activists blame their problems on “transphobia,” and then it sets the table for a series of policy recommendations including eliminating gender reassignment surgeries, additional bathroom legislation, reparative therapy for both youth and adults, and denying access to health care to people who are transgender.

The report is peppered with bible quotes trying to validate God’s opinion that people who are transgender do not exist, however, what the Family Research Council and other right wing religious organizations using the bible as a tool for hate seem to miss is that one simple bible quote that over-rides all others.

This single bible quote eliminates this report, the emails these organizations send, the money they use to buy politicians and the laws they try to legislate against us.  This single quote in the Holy book held so close to the breasts of those who have carried no sin and can do no wrong is Mathew 6:5.

Mathew 6:5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.”
