Demand Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson Veto 1570

Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson has The so-called “Arkansas Save Adolescents From Experimentation (safe) Act on his desk”. If signed into law it would keep transgender-affirming healthcare away from anyone 18 or younger.

At the center of this bill is the contention that puberty blockers are untested and were originally prescribed for a different symptom.

That is a lie.

Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone Agonists is the drug that is prescribed in cases of “Precocious Puberty” This medication has been prescribed since the 70’s, is given when Puberty begins at too early of age in cisgender adolescents.

Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone Agonists is the same drug that is given to transgender youth to delay the effects of puberty. It is a medication given to the patient so they time to consider hormone therapy when they are older.

HB 1570 is one of the most extreme and harmful anti-trans bills in the country. If passed and signed, it will be the most extreme piece of anti-trans legislation ever signed into law.

Here’s what you need to know:

House Bill 1570 Puts Vulnerable Arkansans at Risk.

    • Denying best practice medical care and support to transgender youth can be life- threatening. It has been shown to contribute to depression, social isolation, self-hatred, risk of self-harm and suicidal behavior, and more.
    • Research shows, after gender-affirming care and treatment, trans youth experience significant decreases in suicidal thoughts and improvements in overall emotional and behavioral health.
    • This bill would take away options for trans youth, irreversibly force youth through endogenous puberty and undermine the prevailing recommendations of every major medical association.

There is no possible reason, other than retribution for a failed insurrection, to deny transgender youth this life-saving medication.

Just days after Arkansas’s Governor signed a bill barring transgender girls from sports another bill is moving unopposed through the senate.

Senate Bill 450 would defund public and private schools if they are found to allow transgender athletes to participate in school sports.

The bill requires the AG to conduct investigations and allows for lawsuits against transgender girls and schools if they are ruled to have deprived cisgender girls of their perceived privilege.

ACLU is asking all to text, call and email Hutchenson and tell him to reject this hateful legislation.
