“I am a heterosexual, not homosexual,” Chinese sexologist Li Yinhe wrote in her blog Thursday. She was responding to her husband’s apparent outing, and accusations that she is a lesbian.
Calling the acusations visious on weibo.com she wrote that
“She really was not her, but he was a female physiology, psychology male person. He is a female-to-male transsexuals, learning called transsexual.
In most free countries these revelations would scarcely raise a eyebrow. But in China this is huge, her sites garnering hundreds of thousands of visits in hours. According to the AP aricle published in the Evening Sun:
Chinese are increasingly liberal with heterosexual relationships, but still hold deep prejudices against sexual minorities despite government efforts to achieve equality. As an obscure group in the already socially marginal gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, transgender Chinese get even less attention and understanding from the public.
Activists said Li’s revelation would help the sexual minority.
“It will help the (transgender community) tremendously, whose voices are hardly heard by the public,” said Ying Xin, executive director of the Beijing Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Center. “It helps with their visibility.”
It’s always amazed me how often Chinese transgender people visit Planet Transgender despite the government’s tight control of the internet.
I’ve cross-post this to my new Weibo account. It will be interesting to see if the government is truly willing to loosen its draconian control of the internet and let our people be.
