Born in Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina transgender woman Andreja Pejić has made an indelible impression on the world’s Psyché. Forever bending the conscious stream, this refugee from war and transgender supermodel has done much to help us regain the lucidity of our hearts.
Incredibly successful as an androgynous model she further challenged the world’s ability to accept change when she came out as a transgender woman last year telling USA Today.
“I was proud of my gender nonconforming career. But my biggest dream was to be comfortable in my own body. I have to be true to myself and the career is just going to have to fit around that.”
Andreja Pejić didn’t just open the gender door when she publicly embraced her feminity, she broke it. The door (and some men) became unhinged. When in 2011 while still presenting as androgynous she was voted the world’s 98th most beautiful woman by the readers of the men’s magazine FHM. The accolade might have been delightful had the magazine’s editors not reacted transphobicly. the week recounted…
Now keep in mind, the magazine’s subscribers voted for her so change was in the air.
It’s hard to say sorry and mean it (for men’s mags).
So her legacy of change continues…
