Alejandra, trans asylum seeker, denied meds in dire straits

Amnesty International is calling for the release of transgender activist Alejandra being held in the Transgender pod in the Cibola County Detention Center, Milan, New Mexico.

Alejandra(last name withheld) fled El Salvador in 2017 after being attacked by transphobic mobs and being raped by both the military and civil police after reporting the violence.

Trans Europe reports that there were 36 transgender recorded murders in San Salvador as of the 2017 TDOR. Trans Lives Matters Reports that four transgender people have been murdered since the beginning of the year making fled El Salvador once again per capita one of the deadliest places on earth for trans people.

The case is especially urgent in light of the recent death of transgender woman Roxana Hernández while in ICE custody in the same unit. Cibola can only house 60 trans women making this the deadliest location for transgender people in the USA.

The people murdering San Salvidorian transgender people go unpunished and belive that what they are doing is ordainded by law.

Fear, based on transgender identity, of returning to the country of which one has citizenship may qualify as a reason for asylum in the United States. The requirements include needing to demonstrate past persecution (harm directly from the government or from others that the government was unable or unwilling to control) and/or well-founded fear of future persecution.

Alejandra can demonstrate these conditions are present in her case but the Trump administration still holds her,so please consider this Amnesty International action.
