Musa, A 15-year-old transgender girl was lured from home and ‘raped to death’ in Faisalabad, Pakistan on Saturday as first reported by Naya Dau.
Activist Shaan Taseer posted a photo on Facebook, in which he demanded that Shireen Mazari, Federal Minister for Human Rights take action against the perpetrators
“Yesterday, on the 4th of April, a Christian Transgender girl, Musa, resident of Daud Nagar Faisalabad was lured away by a local gang of 10 -12 thugs and physically, sexually abused and murdered. Her body was left outside her master and mentor’s house.”
“Batala Colony Police Station has refused to take action. No FIR has been lodged despite the presence of multiple witnesses.” Shaan Taseer said.
Please help us bring #JusticeForMusa.
Police officer Muhammad Sohail Choudhry who had been called on to help posted late on that thread ‘Done’ presumably indicating that a First Information Report (FIR) had been filed.
Each FIR is important as it sets the process of criminal justice in motion. It is only after the FIR is registered in the police station that the police take up investigation of most types of cases. Anyone who knows about the commission of a cognisable offense, including police officers, can file an FIR.
The multilingual progressive publication Naya Dau referred to the youth with male pronouns but the illustrative image featured a young woman. Musa is a male name and is very possibly her birth name. But given the nature of the crime and problematic Urdu English gender translations, PTG will opt to use female pronouns until corrected.
Influential Pakistani men often pay destitute families for their children, both male and female, so they can sexually abuse them without consequence.
Police are often complicit or perpetrate the crime.
