Transgender woman Gabriel Tinto, 51, was found hanged a week after submitting a bullying complaint to Wiltshire College, Salisbury, UK.

In her last facebook entry, she said “Getting frustrated about my voice again, it’s the first thing people judge me by and instantly marks me as trans and the most common reason my gender is questioned. So isolating and nothing I can do to change it. I feel hopeless and angry about it, I’m instantly judged and there is nothing I can do to make people see further.”
Later saying “I am starting to believe the insults…I am tired and I can’t see a happy ever after.”
“there is a lot going on. I got more abuse wednesday and I am having issues because of it. I will be in Tuesday and I’ll explain then”

Gabriel Tinto also posted on Google+ about the difficulties she was experiencing getting treatment “I’ve posted a few links to articles on my Facebook page that may be of interest to those in transition, they are primarily concerned with the lack of professional knowledge within the initial care for transgenders within the British NHS care system.”

Friends posted a stream of comments following the tragic news.

Shocked, stunned and saddened to hear this news. I hadn’t known you for long but I’m so glad I did. RIP Gabi, i’ll miss you. Xxx

For the short time I have known you was beautiful. I admired you a lot, I looked up to you and still do. You are/were am amazing beautiful woman. Am going to miss you very much and our hilarious conversations and antics. Hope are resting well sugah.

Wiltshire College principal Amanda Burnside told the Bath Chronicle everyone at the college was shocked and saddened by the news.

She confirmed Gabriel had made an official complaint about bullying, but had been clear that only one person had been involved.

The college was investigating the complaint and had emailed Gabriel with an update on Thursday, unaware of what had happened, Ms Burnside said.

It is understood dog walkers discovered Gabriel’s body hanged from a tree near the leisure centre and raised the alarm. Her family have been informed.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “Police are not treating the death as suspicious however enquiries are ongoing and a file will be prepared on behalf of H M Coroner for Wiltshire.

“Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.”

I didn’t know her but have tried to learn a little about her life cut short by transphobia. If in fact there was one person directly responsible for the bullying I hope they are help accountable. I did find that she listened to music and will share that with you now.

R.I.P Gabriel Tinto

I am a transgender woman and I take it with Pride. I am very pretty, but as soon people hear my voice they immediately judge me. Specially Hispanics and African Americans. It’s kind of Hurting, but I don’t care. I think at my job is where it happens the most since I am a manager and I have to use my voice all time. Hopefully my coworkers and managers are supportive now. After the HR conversation lol.

But as transgender woman we must be strong and fearless of no one. Always looking up and never down.

    JL

Hi, it’s Kelli. I have a decidedly masculine sounding voice. This used to be a huge problem for me early in transition. While I do envy some of our young who are able to block hormones from making these changes I’ve come to embrace my transness. I am fond of saying I am ‘outwardly trans’ but I have also been blessed with a body that ‘allows me to move about’.
I hope everyone can come to embrace their own ‘tells’ as Laura Jane Grace calls them. Most everyone has a tell. Love it. It’s what makes you, you.

Its stories like this that break my heart the most.
When one heart of my trans sisters is bullied and feels so at a loss within herself …….yeah it my breaks my heart bigtime .
Yet at the same time I cant help but think that Gabriel would’ve seen an entitely better outcome had Amanda Burnside not bern so negligent in her follow up of Gabriel’s complaint. Instead she blows it off as being ” only one” person. Like it takes more than one to bring terrorism against another person. I do think Gabriel would still be with us had Amanda Burnside done her job responsibly instead of dropping the ball and minimizing Gabriel’s complaint. But sadly we’ ll never know. Remind me never to go to Wiltshire college
