Driver tackled while NOM Hate Bus vandalized says organizers

NY Hate Bus vandalization a self-inflicted wound?

NOM Hate Bus

What transgender advocates do when not violently tackling and illegally detaining burly bus drivers at the UN.

Banned from European streets, Catholic extremists take the NOM hate bus to NYC where a spokesperson said the driver was attacked and immobilized while the bus was being vandalized.

The “Free Speech Bus,” as it is called by organizers, was parked near the UN for a scheduled event when two people approached, scratched it with a key, cracked windows with a hammer, and spray-painted slogans such as “Trans Liberation,” Brian Brown, president of the Washington-based National Organization for Marriage, told USA TODAY.

The people on board the bus traveling between points in New York, Connecticut, Washington and Boston were inside the UN for an event, but the driver was with the vehicle, Brown said. The driver tried to protect the bus and was tackled but not hurt by one of the vandals, Brown said.

The bus was tagged with the archaic sentence ‘trans liberation’ .

Another version of the incident the person speaking sid the bus driver was just driving around when a man hit the bus with a bat and used his keys to scratch it. Police are investigating.

A bus in search of victimization tour began in South Africa.

NOM Hate BUS

The Spanish ‘hate bus’ tour began last year but it only lasted a few miles. The campaign organized under the umbrella “CitizenGo” group was reportedly financed by the ultra right-wing US groups “Family Watch International”, an offspring of the failed National Organization for Marriage or “NOM”. The Bus apparently operated by the catholic group “Hazte Oír”. was garaged by police after it was observed driving aimlessly around Madrid with a message the officers identified as hate speech.

Coined the “Bus of Shame”, by Madrid residents, it was in response to an educational project launched January 2016 by the Chrysalis Transgender Children’s Families Association. “There are girls with penis’ and girls with vulvas” project, a Spanish campaign to raise public awareness about child transsexuality.

In response, the Hazte Oír began a petition drive hoping to stop the Chrysalis campaign. But Hazte Oír failed to get enough signatures Eduarda Alice Santos reported. So on Monday, February 27th, Hazte Oír put a bus in the streets of Madrid with the message “Boys have penises, girls have vulvas. Do not be fooled. If you are born, you are a man. If you are a woman you will continue to be. ”

The Bus from Madrid was emblazoned with blatantly transphobic memes.

Hazte Oír is portraying its campaign as a freedom of speech issue. But it has been widely viewed as a response to an earlier awareness drive by a support group for transgender children. This group had run advertisements in bus shelters and metro stations in northern Spain with the slogan “There are girls with penises and boys with vulvas.”

Ignacio Arsuaga president of the catholic hate group HazteOir gets a less than friendly welcome when he arrives with his hate bus in Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain) March 17th.

An anonymous New York donor funded that campaign according to EL PAÍS.

Brian Brown of the United States’s National Organization for Marriage (NOM) took over a failing global anti-LGBT group earlier this year. Rebranding as the International Organization for the Family appears to be part of positioning the group as a more muscular advocacy group targeting LGBT communities. This seems to be the culmination of years of talks to form an international group modeled on Brown’s work against marriage equality in the US and similar campaigns in other countries. (because NOM was so successful?)

“The International Organization for the Family has bold plans for the coming year,”  Brown wrote in a message to supporters announcing the group’s new name.

The Hazte Oír bus was immediately impounded by authorities in Madrid. The group returned with a motor home and a slightly altered message: “Do boys have penises? Do girls have vulvas?” after a Madrid judge said that the bus would not be allowed on the city’s streets as long as it continued to bear the original wording, which might constitute hate speech.

“Citizen Go” taunted Chelsea Clinton after she tweeted asking that the campaign not undertaken anywhere else.

Another “victim” looking for another crime? What better way to get free publicity and raise money. It’s a well known TERF tactic. The NOM blog post doesn’t go into details about the damage, just asks for money.

Does the author of this tweet understand the nuances of his message? Don’t think so. But he got it right. He is giving the #Altright some #FakeNews that they can work with.

The bus of shame will be back on the road specifically touring LFBT friendly cities hoping to embolden those with latent hateful tendencies.

Jessica Stern of OutRight Action International, commented,

“Free speech is a constitutional right, but language has consequences that must be considered. Trans youth already have an extremely high risk for violence, discrimination, and suicide. Broadcasting a message that erases and denies the reality that transgender and intersex children and youth exist is irresponsible, factually misleading, disrespectful, and dangerous. This vehicle is part of the reason trans youth are driven to suicide.”

Haven Herrin, Executive Director of Soulforce, an LGBTQI social justice organization that challenges Christian Supremacy through spiritual healing, radical analysis, and strategic direct action, added their perspective commenting,

“Religion that denies the sacred being of trans and intersex children is no religion at all—it’s a gross abuse of power. We need to send the message to trans and intersex youth that they are cherished just as they are and that they don’t have to conform to pressure from hateful ideologies.”
