According to Montreal Gazette, the warrant was issued on Thursday out of the Montreal courthouse. Jayne Ellen Heideck, 42, of Kelowna, B.C., is accused of five different criminal charges in the warrant including arson with a disregard for human life, breaking and entering and arson by negligence.

The building was occupied at the time by Dr. Brassard and patients. The fire was extinguished before emergency responders arrived by the building’s automatic sprinkler system. It is unknown if the fire was set in a room where an operation was taking place. All of those who were in the building evacuated safely.

Some reports have suggested that Jayne Ellen Heideck is transgender and have quoted unverifiable sources indicating that she was dissatisfied about a procedure performed at the clinic.

UPDATE 6/3/2016 RCMP spokesman Cpl. Ryan Fehler said Jayne Ellen Heideck, 42, was taken into custody Monday morning according to CBC

As we suggested in our original report there remains a possibility that the fire at the Centre métropolitain de chirurgie (CMC) might have been set by an unsatisfied transgender client.

Transition is an imperfect answer to a very real life threatening condition. Being transgender is still relatively new to medicine. Results from SRS are unpredictable, expensive, and require a long often painful after care. I think given most Trans folk have years of struggle, abuse, and trauma (Many suffer from PTSD) It is wise that they have on-going guidance/ therapy. Not a gate keeper but a therapist to monitor their actions and understanding as they progress through a very though process. A very wise Woman who runs a large org. to support trans youth once told me that by the time they become involved these kids the least of their problems is their transgender-ism. One can extrapolate that by the time they reach adulthood those issues have only gotten bigger.
