JAKE ZYRUS Comes Out as a Trans Man

For those of us frustrated with society's slow progress a reminder of how lucky we are that we sing in the chorus

JAKE ZYRUS

Glee phenom JAKE ZYRUS made it official last week shedding his female skin. Formerly known as Charice Pempengco, he told Ophra in 2014 that he knew his soul was male at age 5 but hedged at committing to transition saying he wasn’t going to go through that ‘whole thing’.

This was only a few years ago in 2014, but you can tell from both Zeke and Ophra that they were uncomfortable discussing transition as it was still a relatively taboo topic.

Zyrus originally came to fame as a teenager by releasing covers of pop hits like Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” and Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” online, which garnered a great deal of industry attention and a guest-star spot as Sunshine Corazon on Glee. Zyrus became the first Asian solo singer to land a top 10 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart with 2010’s Charic reports billboard.com.

Most of couldn’t imagine coming out as trans and the complications of being a highly recognized star.
