Watch live Friday as transgender activist Jackie McKethen interviews Democratic candidate for governor of Illinois Daniel K. Biss on Chicago’s Can TV. The interview scheduled to be broadcast at 2 PM on Channel 21 will also be viewable simultaneously on Youtube. Ms. McKethen told Planet Trans she would use this opportunity to ask questions from the LGBT perspective, some being highly contentious issues.

Senator Biss an experienced politician and proven ally of the LGBT community is facing 4 other Democrats for the primary on March 20, 2018.

If Biss wins the primary he will face either moderate incumbent Bruce Rauner(R) or Jeanne Ives, the off the rails anti-LGBT, anti-feminist, fearmongering state legislator from the 42nd district.

Ives can’t be discounted for her immoral beliefs as the trump election has shown. The Ives campaign has unrepentantly preyed on conservatives worst nightmares despite calls from her own party to stand down.

We aren’t done with the controversial aspects of this Illinois Governors race. This leads us to troubling questions emanating from within the Illinois LGBT community itself. According to ballotpedia Biss was endorsed by the Equality Illinois Political Action Committee (PAC) during the 2014 legislative race.

While multiple endorsements during the primary ane not uncommon the Equality PAC has endorsed only one Democrat for Governor during the primary runoff, candidate J.B. Pritzker.

According to an unnamed Biss’ spokesman vented on Facebook:

“As a queer person who served on the Equality Illinois PAC Board and have supported the organization since the day I moved to Chicago, I am sorely disappointed by their decision to endorse JB Pritzker.”

“Daniel Biss and Litesa Wallace have been champions of LGBTQ Equality bills in Springfield, including the bill to legalize same-sex marriage, the bill banning conversion therapy for minors, the bill banning the “gay/trans panic” defense, the birth certificate modernization bill, the bill to guarantee PrEP for Medicaid recipients, a Foster Children’s Bill of Rights, a bill to reduce youth homelessness, the TRUST Act, and the Equal Rights Amendment.”

“But Equality Illinois chose to endorse JB Pritzker, saying his support of the LGBTQ community is “unprecedented” because he held a gay marriage in his home 25 years ago, marched in gay pride parades, and donated $45,000 to the group in the past three years.”

“This endorsement suggests that my beloved #LGBTQ rights organization cares more about making their donors happy than supporting the lawmakers who carry their bills.”

“There’s no reason they couldn’t have endorsed both Daniel and JB… and that question still remains unanswered.”

The general election will be held on November 6, 2018.

Daniel K. Biss(b. August 27, 1977) is a Democratic member of the Illinois State Senate, representing District 9. He was first elected to the chamber in 2012. He previously served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 2011 to 2013.
